Richard was born and brought up in the market town of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, further from the sea than almost any other place in the UK .However , despite this he has a lifelong connection with the East coast and it is his dream like seascapes that formed the majority of his early works
He showed an interest in art at a very early age starting with pencil portraits, watercolours, oils and now his majority of work is in Pastels, throughout the 1980s and 90s Richards painting were exhibited at hotels on the East coast ,were he now has a holiday home
Now he regularly exhibits his work, which includes mostly portraiture, at craft fairs around Derbyshire and several times a year at Peak Fairs in Bakewell, an event that attracts people from many different parts the UK and from countries all over the world
Over the past few years Richard has been exhibiting work at Gallery 11 in Filey ,one of his favourite haunts ,which is also a source of some of his artistic inspiration
One of Richard's claims to fame is that his great great Aunt Harriet Leivers married Walter Lawrence, who was the great D H Lawrence's uncle
